“Health and fitness is at the heart of our community focused business and we have involved Alcove Architecture on both our premises to help us with the redesign and refurbishment to not only make the most of the space but also give the best access and facilities for our clients.” Amy & Cathy, Core Physio & Fitness
A facility for the local community requiring a sympathetic connection to the existing church
Planning permission had previously been obtained for this community centre in Wallington, South London, which connects to the existing St Patrick’s Church built in the 1930s. The new centre provides a spacious atrium, large community hall served by a fully equipped kitchen, three community/meeting rooms and a creche.
Alcove Architecture provided a full working drawings package including technical detailing, and to provide on-site support to the developer, The Hystar Group.
Designed to complement the ecclesiastical setting in a contemporary style, careful detailing of the new build was paramount with particular attention paid to features such as the brick detailing, roof forms and apex windows. Alcove also resolved some challenging issues with the design of the new building in relation to the steeply sloping site levels and the connections to the existing historic church.
The new centre acts as a community hub, providing a much-needed facility to support and connect local people, families and businesses and is fully accessible to all.
