Education

“We have worked collaboratively with Alcove Architecture on numerous educational projects from early years through to further education. Whether it is simply a feasibility or a full construction package, they have the knowledge, skills and expertise to make each project a success.” David Seaman, DLS Arch

A collaborative approach to delivering new build educational facilities

Alcove Architecture collaborated with another architectural practice, TSP, to deliver two new buildings for Furze Platt Secondary School in Maidenhead, Berkshire, using modern methods of construction on an existing school site, that also has external communal use.

Constructed by main contractor Beard Construction, the first building comprised a three-storey teaching block consisting of classrooms and specialist science spaces organised around a central light-filled atrium. Additionally, a separate multi-purpose hall building was delivered with a particular focus on performing arts, requiring careful coordination of lighting, acoustics, ventilation, bleacher seating and staging.

Alcove fulfilled the role of technical architect providing all working drawings, technical detailing and on-site support to the main contractor. The project is an example of the collaborative relationships we build with other architects and contractors, enabling us to jointly provide a stronger and more diverse service where a project requires it.
