“We knew vaguely what we wanted but Julian came up with ideas we hadn’t considered. Step by step we explored ideas to reach the final design. The 3D ‘tour’ was really useful for visualising the scheme. Alcove smoothly handled the planning and building regulations approval processes and we’re really happy with the way it turned out.” Paula & Dave
Contemporary extended family living in a Worthing Conservation Area
We were recommended to the client and from our first meeting it was clear the south facing garden was effectively cut off from the house by an historic outhouse. Listening to both Dave and Paula while walking around their home, we were able to understand their key objectives and opportunities.
Located in a Conservation Area, there was apprehension about a flat roof but it was clear this solution would achieve the high ceiling to match the existing home. Discussing the various options, we elected for a parapet design with brickwork detailing, that concealed rooflights and potential sedum garden over.
To assist their understanding, our optional 3D model service was instructed which also assisted in securing planning approval before we continued with the detailed technical design work.
A picture ribbon window frames the worktop, and an adjoining recessed door allows use in all seasons protected from the elements with direct views out to the garden from deep within the home and daylight floods into the extended home throughout the day.
